AUSTIN, Texas — R&B powerhouses D'Angelo and Mary J. Blige will lend their voices for SXSW Interactive, Samsung confirmed first to Mashable on Friday.
Both performances — D'Angelo's on March 15 and Blige's on March 17 —
will take place at the Samsung Supper Club, continuing the tech
company's consistent wrangling of big-name artists. In 2013, Samsung brought in Prince to headline the SXSW closing party. Last year, Kanye West and Jay Z kicked off Samsung's four-day SXSW concert series.
The two rooftop shows are invite-only, but Samsung device-owners will be able to access performance videos via the Milk Video app, Derrin Woodhouse, Samsung's senior director of experiential marketing.
But what's in it for Samsung? Like many brands at SXSW, the goal is
to lure in music fans by leveraging artists to build buzz for certain
products or services.
“SXSW represents a perfect intersection of technology, entertainment
and music — that's why we have continued to use this festival to
showcase our latest innovations, including the newly announced Samsung
Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge," explained Vince Hudson, VP of Samsung
Electronics America's marketing operations.
The gadgets are on display at the Samsung Studio at 333 E. 2nd St.
