Facebook 'Look Back' Videos Shared Almost 100 Million Times
Millions of Facebook users took a trip down memory lane last week to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary.
In honor of turning a decade old, Facebook gave users the option of downloading a "Look Back" video
that highlights the top moments from their profile over the past 10
years. As it turns out, the gift was well-received: Nearly 200 million
users watched their video, and roughly half of those shared it with
their friends, according to Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.
Sandberg mentioned the figures at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference Tuesday night in San Francisco. "It was amazing," she said, according to CNET. "It ... showed the power of the Facebook brand."
Facebook, which has 1.23 billion active users worldwide, has unveiled
similar features for users in the past. At the end of both 2012 and
2013, the social network offered users a Year in Review that collected their top posts and stories from the previous 12 months.
Other social networks have used similar strategies in the past to
reward users. Twitter partnered with online-presentation company Vizify in 2012 to provide "Your year on Twitter"
videos, which highlights users' top tweets and followers. The feature
still works today, and users can edit or share their videos on their
profiles.
Google+ also rolled out a Year in Review feature for the first time in December.
